Welcome to the online abode of the Mongoose, a curious creature who lives in the north of England with a Linux box and an unpredictable elderly cat.
This is a personal rather than a professional website. However, as a sideline, I do take commissions for verse translation (for instance, if you need an English version of a song or even an entire opera), and also for ghost writing. If you would like to contact me to discuss such a commission, please feel free to have a look through the samples of my work on this site and then e-mail me at: website [at] mongooseenterprises.33mail.com. Please note that this is a disposable address which forwards to my real one, and if it starts to attract a mountain of spam I will change it. If you would also find such an address useful, click here to get one. I've been using this service for a while and can recommend it for both security and reliability.
I can translate from either Italian or French. I can also produce appropriate rhyming, metrical translations from any other language provided I have a full vocal score (or other accurate indication of the rhythm) and a literal prose translation.
I am able to ghost-write on most subjects if given the relevant material (for instance, if you are a scientist, you might be interested in asking me to write a popular book on your behalf based on your research publications). However, I have some specific areas of interest, including early music, mathematics, linguistics and Russian history, and I am familiar with the terminology used in health economics and public health. I can also help with biographical or autobiographical works. I do not ghost-write fiction. The reason is simply this: if I write a work of non-fiction for you, I will be aiming to get your voice and your style across to your readers, as well as your content. When I write fiction, I write with my own voice. I've been developing that voice for well over forty years now, and I've got a pretty good idea where I am with it. Trying to write fiction in yours is unlikely to make either of us very happy.
And besides, I hate writing romance. Or horror. Or anything that involves a lot of people shooting at one another.
